Peter F. Wagner
Can anyone recommend a web host service to go with the book? I'd like to create a web site!
chop
If your looking for something that gives you all the essentials along with phenomenal support - they actually list an 800 number for tech support and a real person actually answers the phone within about a minute. I've been with them as a "reseller" (I host all my client sites there) for about 6 years. siteground.com
Necuima
Hi Peter, I presume that you are aware that you can set up a test web server on your own PC for development and testing purposes - e.g., XAMPP on Windows and similar for a Mac. I use XAMPP and have found it to be excellent. It includes Apache, PHP, MySQL and one other. It is free - just download and install it if you want to. Just FYI, Cheers. Rick Allen
I agree with Necuima. I use xampp and that is my testing environment. I do have a website with godaddy though. I do reccomend getting your own cheap economy web hosting package with Godaddy because you will learn a lot about dealing with host providers this way. Godaddy also has 1-800 number and real people to talk to. Just don't expect them to help you with PHP problems. Thier people are not trained for that. You will be on your own in that regard. Larry
I'd definitely start with a setup on your own computer. It's both free and faster to test things out on. Then, when you're ready, move to a host. I hear good things about Dreamhost, but have never used them myself.
