  1. Hi Larry, Thanks for your reply to my problem with splitting numbers and alphas. I have a new problem now and am baffled. I am putting together a little blog for which I am using MySQL and php. The database is populated fine and I can pùll the date as $date from the MySQL, The problem is when I try to format it as, for example, Monday 27 July 2021. The code is: Previous code includes calling $dbc, etc etc. <?php date_default_timezone_set('Europe/Madrid'); $blog1 = "SELECT * FROM ZRM ORDER BY Date DESC"; $blog2 = @mysqli_query($dbc, $blog1); while ($blog3 = @mysqli_fetch_array($blog2)) { $ref = $blog3['Ref']; $date = $blog3['Date']; It all works up to here: $date2 = date_format($date, 'd/F/Y'); echo date_format($date, 'j n y') . $date2; As you can see, I have tried a number of formats. Nothing at all prints and no error messages. Using double apostrophes neither. $date prints as: 2021-09-13 13:33:06 . The strange thing is that I can copy/paste the code into W3Schools and it works perfectly (by adding a line at the top: $date=date_create("2013-03-15"); See https://www.w3schools.com/php/phptryit.asp?filename=tryphp_func_date_format For example, W3Schools gives me: 13 Sep 2021 when I run: <?php $date=date_create("2021-09-13 13:33:06"); echo date_format($date,"d M Y"); ?> If I have to I can use some string functions to pull the date apart and re-organize it, but date_format should work, no? As always, your assistance is greatly appreciated. Max You can see $date as it comes out here: http://www.zrm.es/blog.php
  2. Hi I've created the Message Board site as per the book but for some reason the Date & Time on both the Forum.php and read.php page aren't displaying. I've tried the supplied code as well as my own and neither work so I'm assuming it might be a php setting or MySQL setting? I've run the site using XAMPP on my MacOSX and also on my rented server. I don't know if it makes any difference but the php.ini file timezone is set to... date.timezone = "Europe/London" Can you help please, many thanks Grant
  3. Hi. I'm modifying the 'quotes' script in chapter 13 to include a statement before the quotes that indicates a 'new' or 'recent' quote if the quote was entered within the last 30 days. I know I need to use $row[date_entered] (type timestamp in mysql, e.g. 2014-03-09 13:25:11). Is there a function to compare that timestamp with today (in number of days)? Thanks.
  4. How do get .csv date into MySql date. .csv always changes my text cell into a date cell, which MySql turns into "0000-00-00"
  5. I would like to retreive the year from a date I enter (and which is not necessarily the date of the day!). For instance, I enter something like "$date = '15-09-2010';" How can I retrieve "2010" from this declaration?
  6. O.K. - stuck again! Page 178 - chapter 6. As a learning tool, I decided to edit 'today.js' so that when it displayed single digit minutes ((i.e. 0 - 9) it would insert a zero by way of formatting. I have created a new variable 'todayMinutes' to which I add a zero if the number of minutes are less than ten. The only problem is that it doesn't work! I have substituted the zero for a text character to force the variable to a string without success. Would appreciate some advice:............... // today.js // This script indicates the current date and time. // Call this function when the page has loaded: function init() { // Want to be strict: 'use strict'; // Create a Date object: var today = new Date(); if (today.getMinutes() < 10) { var todayMinutes = '0' + today.getMinutes(); } // Create a custom message: var message = 'Right now it is ' + today.toLocaleDateString(); message += ' at ' + today.getHours() + ':' + todayMinutes.value; // Get a reference to the paragraph: var output = document.getElementById('output'); // Update the innerText or textContent property of the paragraph: if (output.textContent !== undefined) { output.textContent = message; } else { output.innerText = message; } } // End of init() function. window.onload = init;
