Hi. Just letting anyone from the UK know that Stripe has finally came over, in private beta format so far. Pound sterling currently being accepted and euro acceptance coming soon. I'd recommend having a look if you can. While waiting for full release, it's a good time to look back at Larry's guide if you want to integrate this, starting from: http://www.larryullman.com/2012/10/10/introduction-to-stripe/

I can't say how grateful I am to Larry for this book. I already used the first example to set up a e-business, selling a digital product, and now I am close to finishing a second one, based on the book's second example. I am hardly a PHP wizard but I have learned so much from Larry's books. I know how to read and debug the PHP code and the MySQL stored procedures and I can figure out what changes to make in order to tweak the example code to my requirements. But at the moment, I am a bit stuck. Two of the concepts for the Coffee store I really like: no user registration and payment processing over IPN without exiting the website. For the latter, the book uses Authorize.net as a payment gateway, but because only American customers can avail of their service, Larry recently in his blog explained how the same would work with PayPal's Website Payments Pro. You can probably imagine my disappointment when last night I discovered that PayPal only offers to service to customers in the UK. So now I am back to Website Payments Standard/Express Checkout. I have looked at other gateways such as Moneybookers.com and none offer something similar to Payments Pro. Here is my question: What changes (and at what point in the check out process) would I have to make to convert the payment method in example 2 to Website Payments Standard/Express Checkout? I may still end up using Moneybookers.com because they offer national debit cards and their fees even seem better than PayPal's. In some European countries, PayPal didn't really catch on or -quite undeservedly, I think- got bad publicity. Greetings from the Emerald Isle and thanks for any help! Michael

hi I'm starting to look at Part Three of the good book - Selling Physical Products. I'd like to implement something similar to Larry's model/application - widgets say. But first I'd like to test it somewhere (cheapest) before I go live! 1. Do I HAVE to have SSL? Could I do it using http instead? 2. Is a shared host OK to start/test with? For 1. Is this determined by my gateway provider? Just trying to get a feel for it. I'd probably start off with a test domain: http://test.example.com say.

Hello everyone, My boss has two websites -- one of which they wanted me to clone to replace the other. They are on two different servers. They had me transfer the website files, reconfigure to a new database on a new server, and then make cosmetic changes. However, I am finding that none of the links on the clone (apart from the home page) actually work. For instance, if you click "What's New" this should link to the Who We Are page. The URL it links to is: /who-we-are (without any php extension). There is a .php file on public_html that is titled "who-we-are.php." The absence of an extension in the URL made me think there was an .htaccess file, and there was: Options -MultiViews Options +FollowSymLinks RewriteEngine On RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d #RewriteRule ^(.*)$ $1.php [L,QSA] RewriteRule ^search([\/]?)$ index.php?option=collection-products§ion=collection&%{QUERY_STRING} [L,QSA] RewriteRule ^page\/([a-zA-Z0-9_-]+)([\/]?)$ index.php?option=pages&url=$1&%{QUERY_STRING} [L,QSA] RewriteRule ^product\/([a-zA-Z0-9_-]+)\/([a-zA-Z0-9_-]+)([\/]?)$ index.php?option=product&category=$1&producturl=$2&%{QUERY_STRING} [L,QSA] RewriteRule ^products\/([a-zA-Z0-9_-]+)([\/]?)$ index.php?option=collection-products§ion=collection&productcat=$1&%{QUERY_STRING} [L,QSA] RewriteRule ^products\/([a-zA-Z0-9_-]+)\/([a-zA-Z0-9_-]+)([\/]?)$ index.php?option=collection-products§ion=collection&category=$1&productcat=$2&%{QUERY_STRING} [L,QSA] RewriteRule ^products\/([a-zA-Z0-9_-]+)\/([a-zA-Z0-9_-]+)\/([a-zA-Z0-9_-]+)([\/]?)$ index.php?option=collection-products&category=$1§ion=collection&subcategory=$2&productcat=$3&%{QUERY_STRING} [L,QSA] RewriteRule ^collection\/([a-zA-Z0-9_-]+)([\/]?)$ index.php?option=collection§ion=collection&category=$1&%{QUERY_STRING} [L,QSA] RewriteRule ^collection\/([a-zA-Z0-9_-]+)\/([a-zA-Z0-9_-]+)([\/]?)$ index.php?option=collection§ion=collection&category=$1&subcategory=$2&%{QUERY_STRING} [L,QSA] #RewriteRule ^detail\/([a-zA-Z0-9_-]+)\/([a-zA-Z0-9_-]+)([\/]?)$ index.php?option=cat_page_more§ion=$1&category=$2&%{QUERY_STRING} [L,QSA] #RewriteRule ^philanthropy([\/]?)$ index.php?option=our-work§ion=philanthropy&&%{QUERY_STRING} [L,QSA] RewriteRule ^philanthropy\/([a-zA-Z0-9_-]+)([\/]?)$ index.php?option=cat_pages§ion=philanthropy&category=$1&%{QUERY_STRING} [L,QSA] RewriteRule ^philanthropy\/([a-zA-Z0-9_-]+)\/([a-zA-Z0-9_-]+)([\/]?)$ index.php?option=cat_page_detail§ion=philanthropy&category=$1&pageurl=$2&%{QUERY_STRING} [L,QSA] RewriteRule ^our-work\/([a-zA-Z0-9_-]+)([\/]?)$ index.php?option=cat_pages§ion=our-work&category=$1&%{QUERY_STRING} [L,QSA] RewriteRule ^our-work\/([a-zA-Z0-9_-]+)\/([a-zA-Z0-9_-]+)([\/]?)$ index.php?option=cat_page_detail§ion=our-work&category=$1&pageurl=$2&%{QUERY_STRING} [L,QSA] RewriteRule ^([a-zA-Z0-9_-]+)\/([a-zA-Z0-9_-]+)([\/]?)$ index.php?option=cat_page_detail§ion=$1&pageurl=$2&%{QUERY_STRING} [L,QSA] RewriteRule ^our-services([\/]?)$ index.php?option=cat_pages§ion=our-services&%{QUERY_STRING} [L,QSA] #RewriteRule ^philanthropy([\/]?)$ index.php?option=cat_pages§ion=philanthropy&%{QUERY_STRING} [L,QSA] RewriteRule ^conceptual-gift-design([\/]?)$ index.php?option=cat_pages§ion=conceptual-gift-design&%{QUERY_STRING} [L,QSA] #RewriteRule ^our-services\/([a-zA-Z0-9_-]+)([\/]?)$ index.php?option=cat_page_detail§ion=our-services&pageurl=$1&%{QUERY_STRING} [L,QSA] #RewriteRule ^our-work([\/]?)$ index.php?option=collection§ion=our-work&%{QUERY_STRING} [L,QSA] RewriteRule ^([a-zA-Z0-9_-]+)([\/]?)$ index.php?option=$1&%{QUERY_STRING} [L,QSA] It references a symlink. On the original website, there are two symlinks in the root/ folder (not public_html) that are titled: www -> public_html; and then another called, access_logs -> ../domlogs/artmorp1. I assume I need to add the symlinks to the new server for the new site, but can anyone help me understand what is actually going on in this situation? It would help if you could point out what the problem with the clone, and give me suggestions as to how to fix it. Many thanks.

Hi Larry I've worked through your Effortless eCommerce book and it taught me a lot of new things. However, I'm developing a site where both digital and physical items are sold. How would you go about adding digital products to the Coffee site? Thanks for the great book!
