Christopher Bergin 1
I want to thank Larry for presenting an engaging talk to the Boston PHP group. The talk covered the essentials of becoming a web developer. All the points mentioned had relevance to me because I'm just starting out. The venue was at the Microsoft NERD Center in Cambridge Ma. and visiting for the first time, I was quite impressed. Everything about the event was wonderful and I even received one of his books for attending. Larry, you may dismiss the idea of a degree in English studies but I wonder if your books would be appreciated today if you hadn't had the background. I enjoyed meeting and talking with you and I thank you again for being genuinely personable and helpful. Chris Bergin
HartleySan 826
I'm looking forward to attending a conference that Larry speaks at someday myself. Thanks for sharing your experience.
Larry 429
Thank you, Chris. Thanks for coming out and thanks for letting me know you liked the presentation. I'm glad you did. Good luck with your Web development future!
Larry 429
And, Hartley, a link to the raw video from my presentation was posted on my blog today.

Larry 429
It's nearly two hours long so set aside some time...
HartleySan 826
I didn't watch the whole video, Larry, but I liked what I saw. Your voice is higher than I expected, but other than that, you're pretty much what I expected (and that's not a bad thing). I did like the direction of your talk. I imagine that the most common question you hear is, "How do I become a web developer?" and I imagine, it's one of the toughest questions to answer. I think you handled the presentation well (from what I saw, at least). I look forward to hopefully more of your talks being posted, and hopefully, someday, I can attend in person. Thanks. Larry 429
Thanks for the feedback. Right now I have no presentations scheduled, but these things change.
benjamin.morgan 6
I loved the video Larry, I like how you explain things in the video as well as you do in the book!
Larry 429
Thanks, Benjamin. The consistency is pretty much just because that’s who I am, whether in a book or a video. Except that I'm much more nervous in a video!
benjamin.morgan 6
Yeah, In a book you can just go back to it without being recorded . I picked up a local copy of your PHP for the Web book in our local bookstore. Actually I'm very surprised that they had it (in the 4th edition and in an okay condition) I believe the 4th edition is the latest, which is the one I picked up. Edward 108
An interesting talk, i liked how you changed from talking aloud to the silent whispering to yourself to humor the audience.
