Sir I'm not exactly sure if this is the right place to ask this question. So apology if it isn't.

Could you kindly describe briefly (or elaborately) what should be the deciding factor(s) to choose between XML and MySQL for data storage and retrieval.

This is your huge fan from Pakistan. There's no better book on PHP than your's introductory text. I finished it completely in just one week. Now I'm going through its sequel (and yours JavaScript book in parallel), afterwards I'll go for PHP5 advanced and in the end I'd wish: Would that Mr Larry had written another book. Thank you sir!

XML can be used as a good way of storing data that's being transported (e.g., from one site to another). But XML doesn't have any easy search ability, or updates. In fact, XML is tedious and slow to work with. When you're storing data on your site, you'd almost always use a database application like MySQL.

 

You'd only use XML to transfer data.
