E-Commerce Examples In 4Th Edition And 3Rd Edition Differences

Hi Larry,

 

I was just wondering in the 3rd example of the book the admin script uses 1 script to add a new print and that script can also add a new artist if they don't exist.

In the 4th edition you move to separate scripts, 1 for adding a new artist and 1 to adding a new product.

Is there any reason you made the change? (Out of curiosity)

Hey Jonathon,

 

Good question. When doing new editions I look for things to improve by simplifying and for things to improve by expanding. I liked the original add_print.php as written, but found it to just be too complicated. There was too much logic and complication involved, especially when you factor in the file upload and such. I thought it'd be easier to understand, and more importantly, to debug, as two separate scripts.
