Performance And Replace Into

I was reviewing the Advanced Database Chapter three, and was taken with the REPLACE query. Some questions of performance where raised in the following article: http://code.openark....to-think-twice.

 

Always deferring to the forum on such questions, I was hoping someone could shed additional insight on the performance issue.

Thanks for sharing that link. I haven't run benchmarks myself, so I can't confirm the numbers, and that article is three years old, so things may have changed. In any case, I'd be willing to accept that REPLACE may not perform well, but performance is just one criteria when deciding how to do something.
