Hal2011
Is the PHP content the same in both "PHP and MySQL" and "PHP for the web" books? I want to buy one of these books and need to know if there is a difference.
Jonathon
No its different in the sense that php for the web a more introductary text. PHP and MySQL is a more advanced text.

Jonathon
A good decision especially if you're new to server side programming.
phpRob
PHP for the web covers the fundamentals of php at a much slower pace than that of the php & mysql book. It alsor includes an introduction chapter to sql and mysql which i found very helpful. I've nearly finished the php for the web book and will be working through the php & mysql book (4th edition) in the new year which I'm already looking forward to. Like Jonathon said, having both books by your side would be a great decision.

jabsalud
hey sir im just new in php. my question is that, is there a differences in syntax on how to write the codes in php 4 and php 5? by the way what version of php used in your book "PHP and MySQL for Dynamic Web Sites Fourth Edition"? Larry
The 4th edition of the book uses PHP 5.3. The syntactical differences between PHP 4 and PHP 5 are largely in OOP, but that doesn't really matter in this book. The main difference in versions is what PHP functions are supported. jabsalud
hey sir im little bit confuse about the versions of php what is the differences of 5.3.8 to 5.3.6 are they all the same? is it okay if im going to use a wamp with a php version of 5.3.8 though in your book you use 5.3.6 will that affects my study following your book? Larry
Thanks for the question. You'll be fine. Those are trivial releases, used to fix bugs. PHP4 to PHP5 is a huge change, and minor releases such as PHP5.2 to PHP5.3 introduce new features but are otherwise very similar.
