Guest Deleted
I go on freelance websites sometimes. I often see listings that say something like "I want you to make me a site that looks just like insertsitehere" Is that something a legitimate developer would ever do? HartleySan
It's something that happens all the time. I'm not sure most developers want to do that, but if the job pays, most devs will gladly do whatever the client wants.
Guest Deleted
Why do people want clone sites? Is that legal? Could there be copyright issues?
HartleySan
I'm not sure what you mean by "clone site", but no one has a patent on, for example, social networking sites, so you can make one too and basically just steal the ideas of other companies. If the sites were incredibly similar, there could be legal issues, but most people don't do that anyway; they take what's already there, copy it, and then try to improve upon it. Guest Deleted
What if you make the two sites look virtually identical? I've seen some ads asking for that.
HartleySan
Because the business side of the company thinks that they can grab a share of the profits that way.
Guest Deleted
Can the other site sue? Since the counterfit site is purposely misleading consumers? A developer wouldn't want to put this in their portfolio, right?
HartleySan
I think it really depends on how much of a clone you are talking about. I think a lot of sites simply take the general ideas/designs of another site and copy it. If you could provide a more concrete example, then maybe we could discuss things more in-depth.
