Michael vdP
Hi all, I had checked out https://stripe.com but as I live in Ireland, I couldn't use it. Still, Stripe offered the opportunity to sign up for an alert for when they would be available. True to their word, they sent me an email today and invited me to take part in their "private beta". I am already impressed with them! Thanks, by the way, Larry, for your excellent introduction to Stripe: http://www.larryullman.com/2012/11/07/creating-a-stripe-payments-test-account/ Greetings from the Emerald Island! StephenM
Hi Michael, What additional payment options will be available with Stripe do you know? Will it encompass payment methods popular in Ireland or Europe and Ireland? Thanks Stephen

Michael vdP
Hi Stephen, Difficult to tell at this stage, which payment methods Stripe will offer in Ireland. It seems, it will at least be Mastercard and Visa but I hope, they will add other methods as soon as they get past the beta stage, especially the debit card of Irish choice: Laser. On their Help page, Ireland isn't mentioned yet: https://support.stripe.com/questions/what-types-of-payments-can-i-accept-with-stripe. Larry
As the founders of Stripe are from Ireland (Limerick), I'm sure getting setup there was a big priority!
StephenM
@Michael, Yes, it would be great alright. Personally, I think it's crucial to offer the favorite local payment methods... and France and Germany have their own too. So I hope stripe will cover those too. @anyone, I haven't read or gotten the e-commerce book yet but would the principles of integrating stripe be the same as paymill for example? It seems to me (on the surface at least) that one of the most problematic issues of not using a shopping cart platform like drupal commerce or magento for example is the issue of integrating a wide range of payment options. Would this be right? In Europe, people use more than just their credit cards. (In USA, mostly just credit cards, right?) [ Right now, I'm weighing the merit of a platform vs custom php build]
Larry
My understanding is that the payment options and other implementation details that Stripe offers are dependent upon the systems that Stripe is connecting to and using. I don't know what paymill is, but Stripe is integrated in a different manner than any other payment system I've ever used. As for your final question, there are two issues: creating a shopping cart and processing payments. Neither is terribly hard, they just take work and thought. I'm not used Magento or anything else sufficiently to answer whether those shopping cart tools make implementing payments significantly easier.
